Barbados is a Caribbean island known for its white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and rich history. It is a popular travel destination for those seeking sun, sea, and sand, as well as a taste of Caribbean culture.

How to get there

Barbados is well-connected to the rest of the world, with direct flights from major cities such as London, New York, Toronto, and Miami. You can also fly to Barbados from several Caribbean islands, including Antigua, St Lucia, and Grenada. The island has one airport, Grantley Adams International Airport, which is located in Christ Church, on the southern coast of the island.

From the airport you can take a taxi to your hotel or where ever you are going, the island is not that large and a taxi to popular St Lawrence Gap is just about 15 minutes. If you are going to the West Coast please allow about 25 minutes.

Weather and best time to travel

Barbados has a tropical climate, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 30°C throughout the year. The island has two seasons: the dry season from December to May and the wet season from June to November. The dry season is the most popular time to travel, as the weather is sunny and warm, and rainfall is minimal.

Every time I have been to Barbados the day temperature has been around 30°C even during the winter season. The peak season is from mid-December to mid-April, so if you’re planning to travel during this time, make sure to book your accommodation and flights well in advance.

Bridgetown, the capital

Bridgetown is the capital city of Barbados and is located on the southwest coast of the island. It’s a vibrant and bustling city, with a rich history and a vibrant culture. The city is home to several historic buildings, including the Parliament Buildings, which were built in the 1870s and are a prime example of British colonial architecture. Bridgetown is also home to several museums and art galleries, including the Barbados Museum and Historical Society and the National Art Gallery of Barbados.

St Lawrence gap

Holetown and Speightstown

Holetown and Speightstown are two historic towns located on the west coast of Barbados. It’s also home to the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, a luxury shopping mall that features designer stores, restaurants, and a cinema.

Speightstown, located just north of Holetown, is another historic town that was once the main commercial center of the island. Oistin fish market

Oistins Fish Market is a popular attraction located on the south coast of Barbados, in the town of Oistins. It’s a vibrant and bustling market that specializes in fresh fish and seafood caught by local fishermen. The market has been a staple of the local community for over 50 years, and is a great place to experience Bajan culture and cuisine.

Every Friday and Saturday night, the market comes alive with music, dancing, and delicious food. Visitors can choose from a variety of fresh fish and seafood, including flying fish, dolphin (mahi-mahi), tuna, lobster, and shrimp. The fish is grilled or fried right in front of you, and is served with traditional Bajan sides like macaroni pie, rice and peas, and coleslaw.

In addition to the food, there are also several vendors selling souvenirs, clothing, and jewelry. The atmosphere is lively and festive, with live music and entertainment throughout the night.
